Ibadan NBA elects new executives

There was a change of baton in the executives of the Ibadan branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Saturday, as Mr. Adekola Kareem emerged as the new chairman of the association, having defeated his opponent, Mr. Olalekan Thanni, with 216 to 127 votes.
Kareem succeeds the Ibrahim Lawal-led executives in a keenly contested election which took place at the Afe Babalola Bar Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
The executives have two years to serve.
Other elected officers at the election are Dr. Olusola Olorunfemi who defeated Mr. Oluwaseun Shotonwa with 242 to 90 votes to emerge as the vice chairman; and Mr. Adejorin D. Abiona who defeated Mr. Samuel Erinle with 190 to 155 votes to emerge as the secretary.
Some of the other executives who were elected unopposed are Miss Mofeyisara F. Ajao (assistant secretary), Miss. Timisola R. Adebisi (welfare secretary), Mr. Temiloluwa Bolarinwa Morakinyo (treasurer), Mr. Openiyi Idrees (financial secretary), Mr. Muhammad Ali Khan (publicity secretary), and Miss Tijesunimi Olugbile (social secretary).
Kareem, in a speech after the election, said “I appreciate every member of the Electoral Committee for your commitment to the Bar and ensuring that the outcome of the election is a clear expression of the will of the majority.
“As chairman-elect, I pledge to serve with integrity, fairness, humility and dedication. I will remain accessible, accountable and committed to the ideals that unite us as members of this great Bar.”
The committee members that conducted the election are Seun Ajayi, SAN – chairman; Akeem A. Okelola – secretary; Hajia Memudat Yusuf – member; Kehinde Foluke Adegbola – member, and Chimezie Okolie – member.
