The Oyo State government, through the state Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, has praised the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, for prioritising training and capacity building for journalists.
Speaking at a one-day Google AI training in Ibadan, the state capital, Oyelade commended the Akeem Abas-led NUJ for focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool to help journalists stay relevant in a fast-changing media space.
He noted that AI only threatened professionals who refused to learn and adapt.
Drawing from his 47 years of journalism experience, the commissioner encouraged journalists to embrace innovation, stressing that continuous learning was key to professional growth.
Earlier, NUJ Chairman, Abas, said the training, organised in partnership with Google Africa, was aimed at equipping journalists with digital skills for ethical and impactful reporting. He added that embracing AI gave journalists a competitive edge and reaffirmed the union’s commitment to excellence.
