Attacks on Wike: Senior advocate says APC govs not committed to Tinubu’s re-election
STEPHEN GBADAMOSI, IBADAN

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Senator Mutalubi Ojo Adebayo, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to order over what he called unwarranted attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
He said the party’s governors were not committed to the re-election of the president, but revel on throwing tantrums at Wike.
Adebayo, SAN, said this in a statement personally signed and made available to journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT), by now, ought to know who are his greatest adversaries. His political enemies are within his political enclave and they are no other persons than some of his featherweight governors and allies who have made throwing of tantrums and vituperation at the Minister of the FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, their pastimes.
“I am very sure that PBAT is very much aware that those domestic enemies masquerading as his allies are only interested in realising their second term tickets or their senatorial seats and or installing their stooges as their successors.
“Those are their primary concerns and interests while the re-election of PBAT is secondary to them. They were non-committal to the PBAT project in 2023 and they are about re-enacting same in 2027.
“They should all be asked to present their scorecard and ‘success’ results in the 2023 presidential election for all and sundry to see, so that we can compare same with the yeoman job that Mr. Wike did in 2023.
“We can even take the 2023 election results as having passed; what was the aggregate result of their assemblage and strategies during the recently concluded gubernatorial election in Osun State? “With all the human and capital resources they mobilised to Osun State, they failed woefully and met their waterloo. They had nothing to show for the invasion and the siege they laid on Osun State and Osun people.
“Mr. President should not be deceived by those spent forces who cannot deliver their respective states to him in 2027, if their credentials alone are to be relied upon; but they are at the same time trying to frustrate Mr. Wike who has not only demonstrated capacities in all the previous elections including the FCT Area Councils election.
“Not only that, the spectacular and unprecedented performances of Mr. Wike as the FCT Minister has endeared Mr. President to the residents of the FCT.
“It is, therefore, a rude shock and greatest disappointment that instead of collaborating with Mr. Wike on how to successfully deliver the victory of PBAT in the 2027 presidential election, those domestic enemies are waging unnecessary envious and jealous wars against Mr. Wike.
“I am appealing to PBAT to call the affected governors to order, in order to prevent the needless crisis from festering. Those governors do not mean well for PBAT at all; but they are all wolves in sheep’s clothing and they all have their own hidden agenda and selfish interests to serve.
“Finally, I respectfully wish to appeal to Mr. Wike not to be distracted or discouraged by the sinister plots of those enemies within. The FCT Minister should realise that PBAT knows his true supporters and those that are genuinely and sincerely pursuing his re-election with full commitment and dedication,” Adebayo said.
