Lagos State prominent indigenes have called on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the position of the state governorship to their qualified members, come 2027, “in the interest of fairness, justice and sense of belonging.”
A group, at a Technical Committee meeting held on Wednesday, 18th March, deliberated extensively on the forthcoming 2027 general elections and resolved to fully support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.
Following its deliberations, the group also reached a consensus that the offices of governor, deputy governor, and speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2027 should be occupied by indigenes of Lagos State.
This position, according to a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the convener, Chief (Dr.) Adesunbo Onitiri, was anchored on the need to ensure equity, identity preservation, and deeper stakeholder alignment in the governance of Lagos State.
The communique read that: “Criteria for Aspirants: The group outlined key attributes expected of aspirants to these critical leadership positions: Must be bonafide indigenes of Lagos State, with verifiable ancestral roots; must possess the requisite academic and professional qualifications; must have demonstrable experience in governance, leadership, or enterprise (public and/or private sector); must have a proven record of integrity, with no history of corruption or criminal infraction; must be individuals of sound character, discipline, and exemplary personal conduct; and must have verifiable achievements within Lagos State and/or beyond.”
It also included that such candidate “must demonstrate commitment to family values and societal responsibility; must be independent-minded, yet collaborative; focused on transformational leadership with humility.”
The group further stated that it would engage constructively with all qualified aspirants, with the objective of identifying and supporting candidates best suited to steward the collective future of Lagos State.
